Volunteers

Below is the key information for the day.

LOCATION

Salton Sea State Recreation Area, 100225 State Park Rd, Mecca, CA 92254

PARKING

Parking for volunteers will be free. Your name will be on a list at the parking kiosk. When you arrive, tell the kiosk attendant you are a volunteer and provide them with your full name. They will check you in and direct you to where to park.

CHECK-IN

Please check in 5 minutes prior to your start time at the SEAthletes | Kai Wai Club booth at the seaside market next to the visitor center. The SEAthletes booth is gray and will have Kai Wai Club banners hanging from the top. You will be given a volunteer baseball cap, official SEAthletes wristband, and an aloha sticker. When you check in, you will be given you area to volunteer and the volunteer captain’s name and number.

WHAT TO WEAR

Dress casually and comfortably, with sturdy closed shoes. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also suggested. It may be cool in the early morning and the evening; please plan for that.

LUNCH

Lunch will be provided. Chipotle is providing burritos for all the volunteers. Lunch will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The lunch location will be provided to you when you check in.

Vendors

Below is the key information for vendors:

Parking for vendors will be free. Your name will be on a list at the parking kiosk. When you arrive, tell the kiosk attendant you are a vendor and provide them with your full name. They will check you in and direct you to where to park.

CHECK-IN

The Seaside Market hours will be from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. You can setup as early as 6 am. Vendor check-in will be at the SEAthletes | Kai Wai Club booth at the Seaside Market next to the visitor center. The SEAthletes booth is gray and will have Kai Wai Club banners hanging from the top. When you check in, you will be given your space and location and the market captain’s name and number.

ACTIVITIES

So here’s how the day is playing out. The Great California Balloon Race will be 7:00 am to 8:30 pm. The tethered balloon rides will be 8:00 am to 11:00 am. The vintage car show will be from 11:00 am to 2 pm. The Kai Wai Club will go out on the water 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Lowest Glow On Earth will setup at 5 pm.

Car Owners

Below is the key information for the car show.

PARKING

Parking for car owners will be free. Your name will be on a list at the parking kiosk. When you arrive, tell the kiosk attendant you are in the car show and provide them with your full name. They will check you in and direct you to where to park.

CHECK-IN

Please check in 20 minutes prior to the 11 am start time. When you arrive, the car captain will provide you with your SeaFest car sheet to place on your dash. You will be given your car location and you can proceed to park.

ACTIVITIES

As mentioned, the tethered balloon rides will be finishing up at the north end of the parking lot. A Seaside Market will be running from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Inside the market will be the Sea Stage. There will be local music, hula dancing, special guests and more. There will be food vendors at the seaside market. The car show will be located on the west side of the parking lot, along side 12 cabanas and amazing views.

The car show will conclude at 2 pm. SeaFest will conclude with The Lowest Glow On Earth at 5:30 pm.

SeaFest Map

SEAthletes gives every young person the opportunity to paddle on the sea at no cost to them. Funds raised from this event will be used to sponsor more Kai Wai kids and for buying key gear needed to take them paddling on the water; canoes, personal flotation devices, aqua shoes and sunscreen.

The Great California Balloon Race

The race starts at 7 am. Balloons will ascend from North Shore. The fifteen balloons will race over the sea along the Salton Sea State Park shoreline, competing for prize money. This race will be the first of its kind in America. Imperial Irrigation District is the presenting sponsor for this event. All balloon flights are wind and weather permitting.

Balloon Rides

Tethered hot air balloon rides will be offered from 8:00 am – 11:00 am. Get your ticket to be in the ride queue. With an advanced ticket, rides are $20. Rides will be $30 at the event. Balloon rides will be in the north parking lot of the Salton Sea State Recreation Area. All balloon flights are wind and weather permitting.

Seaside Market

A Seaside Market will be from 8 am to 4 pm. It will feature local goods, art, food, services and organizations. The Seaside Market is supported by Whole Foods Market.

Vintage Car Show | Greeting from the Salton Sea Exhibit

This Modernism Week event featuring vintage cars and vintage photographs will be held from 11 am to 2 pm.

Kai Wai Club Paddle

SeaFest also marks the start of the paddle season for the Kai Wai Paddle Sports Club. The young people will be paddling from 2 pm to 5 pm. The guest of honor will be Kimokeo Kapahulehua from Hawaii. He is the founder of the Kimokeo Foundation. The foundation was created to preserve and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture within today’s generation and generations yet to come.

5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

The Lowest Glow On Earth

In the evening, the hot air balloons will be tethered to created the Lowest Glow On Earth. We want to show the whole world the Salton Sea in a new light. Imperial Irrigation District is the presenting sponsor for this event.
